A Faiz Ahmed Faiz poem:
Jo mera tumhara rishta hai
Main kya kahoon ke jo mera tumhaara rishta hai,
woh ashiqui ki zubaan mein kahin bhi darj nahin.
likha gaya hai bahut lutf-e-wasl-o-dard-e-firaq
magar yeh kaifiyat apni raqam nahin hai kahin.
Yeh apna ishq ham aagosh jis mein hijr-o-wasl
Yeh apna dard ke hai kab se hamdam-e-mah-o-saal.
Is ishq-e-khas ko har ik se chupaye hue…
guzar gaya hai zamaana gale lagaaye hue!
( How should I describe the relationship between us
It has never beein described in the language of love
A lot has been written about the joys of meeting
and the pain of separation.
But our situation has not been described anywhere.
In our love meeting and separation are interwined.
This pain has been our companion for months and years.
I have hidden this special love from the eyes of the world….
And it has been a long time since I embraced my love)
aaj phir dard-o-gham ke dhaage mein
hum piroo kar tere khayal ke phool
tark-e-ulfat ke dasht se chun kar
aashnai ke maah-o-saal ke phool
( Today once again in the thread of my pain
I have strung the flowers of your memory
These flowers have been picked up from the desert of our separation
These flowers are the reminders of the days when we were together)
